Massage guns are great for getting into tight muscles. They are good for releasing any tension in the fascial tissue or in the muscles.
The best time to use a massage gun is when your muscles are feeling stiff or tight. Target the big gluteal muscles in the hips or the quadriceps/thigh muscles or the calf muscles in the legs. Avoid any bony areas like the knee caps and the ankle joints. The gun can also be used on the arms biceps and triceps and forearms using a smaller head. Again, be mindful of bony areas avoiding the elbow and wrist joints.
Using the massage gun should not make your symptoms or stiffness worse and should not cause more pain. Consult with the team here at Total Movement Physiotherapy on 0873319883 or email info@tmphysiotherapy.ie if you need further advice or guidance. Please also note that some underlying issues like osteoporosis and lymphoedema, it is not recommended to use the massage gun.
