Men’s Pilates

Pilates Classes for Men in Cork

Pilates, believe it or not, was designed by a man in the 1920s and was intended for both sexes. His name was Joseph Pilates, hence the name Pilates. The reason for its inception was to provide soldiers returning home from war with accessible rehabilitation while at the same time dancers realised its benefits to their craft.

Men Only Classes

Increased core stability, increased muscle definition, improved posture, better spinal alignment, reduced likelihood of injury, improved deep stability muscular strength around joints and increased mind body connection are only a few of the many benefits of Pilates

Pilates is very focused on core work, so it is brilliant for developing the strong core, that we all want and really benefit from in terms of improved power output in the body and reducing the likelihood of back pain.

Furthermore, Pilates has great efficacy in improving the mobility of those who do it. This is done by training the muscles in lengthened positions, this is especially beneficial to men as we have lower range of motion than women. Can you touch your toes?! This is a great test to measure your flexibility!

Another main benefit of Pilates is the co-ordination; in Pilates you must perform specific movements done in a slow and controlled manner. This correlates over to daily life in improving physical and athletic ability.

So, why should men do Pilates?

Besides the above benefits of Pilates, it also trains muscles which are often neglected in traditionally ‘male’ exercise formats, which tend to be the bigger bulkier muscles. By training our bodies stability and smaller muscles we can help prevent injuries by taking unnecessary load off the larger muscles in our bodies.

If you feel like trying some reformer Pilates we offer 1:1 sessions as well as classes at the Black Market and we have men’s only classes up and running as well.
