Reformer vs. Mat Pilates: Understanding the Difference

What is the difference between reformer Pilates and Mat Pilates?

Mat and reformer Pilates both stem from the same core principles- such as- control, concentration, precision, breath and flow.

Mat Pilates

Is performed on the floor using just a mat and mainly your body weight for resistance. It focuses heavily on core strength, balance, and body awareness. Although it sounds simple.. don’t be fooled! This is a great way to build foundational strength and improve posture. We love mat Pilates because it is accessible and easy to do anywhere.

Reformer Pilates

Is performed on a machine called a reformer, which uses springs, straps, and a moving carriage. The reformer provides resistance and support, allowing for a wide variety of exercises. It can challenge movements or provide more support depending on what your goals are. Reformer Pilates is ideal for increasing intensity, targeting specific muscles, and aiding in rehabilitation. We hope you’re ready to sweat!!

Both are extremely effective. We are excited to help and guide you with your own Pilates journey.
